Description of “Classroom”
Are you happy to be with me?――――
This theatrical piece was written as a “children’s play” for the Osaka International Art Festival for Kids 2013. The underlying concept was a play for adults that would move the hearts of children.
It is performed by an actual family of three: the playwright Norimizu Ameya, his partner Korosuke, and his daughter Kurumi. Going back and forth across the border between documentary and fiction, it opens with the scene of a family at breakfast, and eventually the house turns into a classroom. The family take up fundamental questions about sex and copulation, marriage, and the relationships of husband/wife, parent/child, and human/animal. Can the parents teach their child about the beginning and end of life, and the living that occurs in between?
Description of “GUN”
This performance work was created for TTM:IGNITION BOX 2016 / 17, a performing arts program that was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum in 2017.
It begins with a prelude in which Ameya coolly and calmly introduces various types of guns and the sound they make when fired. It then develops into a performance in which he is shot with an enormous number of bullets.
